Michael Buble Says Fatherhood Is ‘The Greatest Thing That Could Ever Happen’

Michael Buble and wife Luisana Lopilato welcomed son Noah last Wednesday, and the Canadian crooner seems to be enjoying fatherhood so far.

The couple announced the pregnancy in January with a video on Lopilato’s YouTube page.

“It’s been what everybody says it would be. It’s the greatest thing that could ever happen to a guy, or a girl,” he said onThe Social Wednesday. “You can’t explain it until it happens — it’s like telling somebody what water feels like before they’ve ever swam in it.”

Buble said the other stuff that comes along with parenthood has also been true, and that he hasn’t slept since his son was born and that he’s become “a master at changing poopy diapers.”

The 37-year-old also said that becoming a father has made him appreciate his wife even more.

“As much as it’s work for both of us, being a mom is just full-time… I had no idea it would be that heavy for her,” he said. “But she does it with a smile on her face.”

The “Haven’t Met You Yet” singer also said that he has perfected the swaddle (and even confessed that he likes being swaddled himself).

Buble admitted that he has received a lot of advice, but at the end of the day, there is no right way to approach parenthood. He also said that a friend told him to always trust his wife’s instincts and joked about how she looked so much better than he did after the birth.

Still, Buble admitted that he didn’t have that “overwhelming feeling of love” when he saw baby Noah for the first time.

“I’m being honest with you. I’d heard all of these stories about how this moment was life-changing, but it wasn’t like that for me,” he said. “I was nervous for my wife, and I was happy that he was healthy… but that day, it was like meeting a stranger.”

Michael Buble explained that it was like someone on the street saying, “I’m your dad,” and knowing that you’re supposed to love them because they’re blood, but they’re still a stranger at that moment. The feeling didn’t last long, though.

“I think that next night, it really clicked. I was looking at him, and all of a sudden, I got it,” he said. “I think it was all really overwhelming.”
