Ice Cube Returns For ’21 Jump Street’ Sequel
The news that there’s going to be a 21 Jump Street sequel has been official for a while. That said, we didn’t know if some of our favorite side characters were returning for the sequel. It wouldn’t make any sense to have Dave Franco return as Eric, seeing as the last time we saw his character he was dragged away in cuffs. However, there was one character that we really wanted to see and that was Ice Cube’s Captain Dickson.
For those not in the know Captain Dickson assigned Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill the assignment of going undercover to find the source of a lethal drug that was being passed around. Throughout the film he reprimanded them quite hilariously with each mix up that the boys found themselves in.
It was announced that Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will both be back for the sequel. Now it’s been announced that Ice Cube will also return. It makes sense given that at the end Dickson assigned the boys to go undercover at a local college, so it’s not surprising that Dickson will be keeping Tatum and Hill’s characters in line for the next go around.
21 Jump Street to the surprise of everyone became an enormous hit for Sony last year, as it racked up more than $138 million, and $202 million worldwide.
In the meantime Ice Cube will be seen opposite Kevin Hart in the comedy for Universal called Ride Along, which will be released in 2014. In addition Ice Cube will produce the film. The rapper turned actor will also produce a comedy series called Outlaws for Amazon Studios.
As for 21 Jump Street, the film is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2014, which is right in line with the first film’s release date.
