William And Kate Pick First Of Six Godparents For Prince George, Report
Most babies have two godparents, a man and a woman, but William and Kate, per royal tradition, need to choose six of them and apparently they have one down, according to reports.
Being a godparent to the future King of England is no small responsibility, so the royal couple must choose wisely, but the fact that they have so many spots to fill doesn’t put anyone on the spot. There are many friends and family members to look at as possible candidates.
It was highly anticipated that the godparents would be Prince Harry, William’s brother and Pippa Middleton, Kate’s sister. But she also has a brother.
The first name being mentioned is that of one of the Duke of Cambridge’s good pals, Guy Pelly.
According to The Sun, William asked Guy, who is a club owner in London, to be one of Prince George’s godparents.
William and Kate have known Guy Pelly for a number of years, although he is a bit of a controversial choice, since he got in trouble for smoking marijuana at a party both, him and William attended.
He was also charged with drunk driving after allegedly doing 129-miles-per-hour on a local street in 2012.
Some may criticize the choice as not good enough for a future King, but William and Kate are their own people and have made less than traditional decisions when it comes to their relationship and now their child.
Other names reportedly being considered are more of William’s friends, Thomas Van Straubenzee, as well as his former private secretary, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton.
It would be surprising if William and Kate don’t choose Harry as one of the baby’s godparents. The three of them are very close and he is expected to be a very involved uncle and already has offered to babysit.
