Kate Upton Yearns To Be More Than Just A Swimsuit Model

Kate Upton has successfully made the jump from swimsuit model to high-fashion supermodel, but the 21-year-old seems to want something more out of life.

Upton will receive the Model of the Year honor at Wednesday night’s 10th Annual Style Awards in New York City, an event that kicks off New York Fashion Week.

The award tops a year in which the 21-year-old was ubiquitous in the modeling world. She scored her second straight Sports Illustrated cover, appeared in both American and Brazilian Vogue, and scored a big campaign with jewelry retailer David Yurman.

Kate Upton even branched outside the modeling world, appearing in her first movie (The Other Woman) alongside Cameron Diaz.

But with all the success, Upton said she fears she is viewed as little more than an object and yearns for something more.

“After my first Sports Illustrated cover, I felt terrible about myself for a solid month,” Upton said for the cover of the September issue of Elle. “Every single guy I met was either married or about to be married, and I felt like I was their bachelor present or something.”

“I’m not a toy, I’m a human. I’m not here to be used,” she said. “I am a grown woman, and you need to figure your [expletive] out.”

Upton also seems to be put off with the modeling world itself.

“People deal with models like they are children,” Upton told Elle last month, “They think they can pull one over on you. It’s actually funny. I’m always like, I’m about to pull something on you, and you’re so focused on thinking I’m dumb you’re not even going to know.”

This week Kate gave a hint of the life she may be aspiring toward. After her sister Laura Upton got engaged to Adam Killan, Kate tweeted a video of their proposal and the message: “Wow most beautiful engagement ever!! Sooo happy for my beautiful sister Laura Upton and brother-in-law to be Adam!”

The message led some to believe that Kate could be thinking about getting married herself.

But if she is going to settle down, it won’t be in the near future. Though Kate Upton dated pitcher Justin Verlander has been linked to Dancing With The Stars performer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, reports say the model is still single.
