Transformers 4 producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently confirmed that Dinobots will play a role in director Michael Bay’s upcoming sequel.

Although Paramount Pictures tried their best to do a little damage control following the leak of a call sheet last week, news of the Dinobots’ appearance in the next installment of the franchise spread like wildfire. Not surprisingly, fanboys and fangirls were quite excited about the revelation.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently confirmed the appearance of the robotic dinosaurs in Transformers 4 . Since the internet couldn’t stop buzzing about the news, apparently someone felt the need to throw fans a bone.

“I can not disclose the specifics, but you can be sure that the joining of the Dinobots will give the audience new excitement. The world’s coolest, most exciting cars will appear in the film, including China’s vehicles,” he explained to TFW2005 .

Those who don’t follow the ins and outs of the Transformers universe are probably wondering what a Dinobot is right about now. They characters first appeared in the cartoon series way back in 1984. The robots were constructed by Wheeljack and Ratchet in the episode “S.O.S. Dinobots.”

The first three to appear in the animated series were Grimlock (Tyrannosaurus rex), Slag (Triceratops), and Sludge (Apatosaurus). Snarl (Stegosaurus) and Swoop (Pteranodon) later joined the team. The characters’ limited intelligence and destructive nature almost resulted in the Autobots destruction.

It’s unclear just how much of the original storyline Michael Bay and company plan to incorporate into the Transformers 4 storyline. Since fans of the original cartoon are a particular bunch, chances are they will be keeping a close eye on how the Dinobots fit into the sequel.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura also dropped a few hints about how Paramount Pictures intends to release Transformers 4 . While the film will feature Chinese actors and locations, the producer said fans should expect one global version of the movie when it hits theaters next year.
