Selena Gomez ‘Learned So Much’ From ‘Getaway’ Co-Star Ethan Hawke
Selena Gomez recently spoke about her new movie, Getaway, and said that she “learned so much” from co-star Ethan Hawke.
The 21-year-old plays The Kid, whose car gets commandeered by Hawke’s character, Brent Magna, a former race car driver desperately trying to save his kidnapped wife. The Kid and Brent are then directed to commit a variety of criminal acts by the mysterious “Voice” holding Brent’s wife hostage.
“The Kid is spunky and edgy and really cool. I get her angst and why she’s that way.. with her dad and the frustration of her wanting to be on her own,” Gomez said in an interview with Flicks and Bits. “She knows a lot about cars and technology, which I know nothing about, so that was interesting for me and a big challenge to familiarize myself with.”
Gomez also praised her 42-year-old co-star.
“He probably doesn’t realize it, but every time Ethan speaks I take away so many pearls of wisdom. I had my first script, the first draft, when we were rehearsing,” she said. “I would put ‘Ethan’ on the side and just write down quotes of what he would say because he just has so much knowledge. I had so much fun working with him and I learned so much.”
Selena Gomez also recently credited Spring Breakers with teaching her how to take risks.
“This opened my eyes and made me more comfortable in taking risks. I’m excited just to look at what’s out there and take the next step and do a couple of different roles, whatever they are,” she said.
“It also changed people’s perception in Hollywood, I think it’s exciting to throw people off, so I like it,” she added. “Spring Breakers helps me not be afraid. Like I said, I’m generally very tentative and over-thinking but this movie made me push myself.”
Getaway hits theaters August 30. Selena Gomez recently finished filming Rudderless, starring William H. Macy, Laurence Fishburne, and Billy Crudup.
