Valerie Harper Brain Cancer Update: Doctor Says Actress Is Close To Remission

Valerie Harper got some good news from her doctors this morning: Her brain cancer is close to remission.

Harper was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer earlier this year. In March, her doctors told her that she only had three months to live.

Harper went public with her diagnosis and told her fans that she was staying upbeat and was taking every day as it comes.

Harper said at the time: “I have an intention to live each moment fully. I’m not dying until I do.”

Harper has kept an optimistic view throughout her battle with cancer and today she truly had something to smile about.

Neuro-oncologist Jeremy Rudnick said: “I’d say that we’re getting pretty close to a remission… It defies the odds.”

Harper will appear in a new documentary about her battle with cancer this September on NBC. The actress also recently signed on to join the cast ofDancing With The Stars.

But Harper isn’t completely out of the woods yet. Dr. Rudnick said that it’s only a matter of time until patients “develop resistance to the therapy.”

Valerie admitted that she was afraid of what would come next but she’s still sticking by her motto: “I’m not dying until I do.”

Harper said: “I am afraid of what’s ahead. But, so what? There’s much to be afraid of in life.”

The special Valerie’s Story – a Meredith Vieira Special will air on September 19 at 10 pm.
