A six-year-old Chinese boy had both his eyes gouged out by a woman in Linfen city in the Shanxi province of China.
It was initially reported that the boy, known as Guo Bin, had been targeted by organ traffickers who receive handsome rewards for corneas. New reports from the Chinese authorities now confirm that the boy’s eyes, which were found on the floor close to where the vicious attack took place, had the corneas intact, suggesting it was nothing to do with organ trafficking.
The woman who gouged out the boy’s eyes abducted him on Monday to a nearby field from a path where he was walking. She is reported to have said to him: “Don’t cry and I won’t gouge out your eyes,” the child was found three hours late in the field, covered in blood.
The Beijing Times reported on the story which has had people around the world in shock. The child’s father said: “We didn’t notice his eyes were gone when we discovered him – he had blood all over his face. We thought he had fallen down and smashed his face,” continuing, “His eyelids were turned inside out, and his eyeballs were not there.”
The only saving grace in this case is that the child was reportedly drugged and unconscious at the time when his eyes were removed.
As soon as the boy’s parents realized he was missing, a frantic search ensued as they tried to locate their son. He was found screaming, covered in blood, and disorientated.
An uncle of the boy spoke to reporters telling them what his nephew said while in the hospital, “He asks why the sky is always dark… and why the dawn still hasn’t come.”
This horrific story that has emerged from China over the last few days is shocking to the core as one tries to fathom what kind of evil would cause someone to gouge out the eyes of a six-year-old.
