Miley Cyrus VMA Shocked ‘Breaking Bad’ [Video]
The infamous Miley Cyrus VMA 2013 sexually charged performance shocked even Hank and Marie from Breaking Bad.
As the entire world knows by now, the 20-year-old singer twerked on stage Sunday night during a performance of her song “We Can’t Stop,” then turned it up a notch when Robin Thicke went onstage. Performing his hit song “Blurred Lines,” Thicke was joined by a gyrating Miley who wore nothing but a bra and nude underwear. The raunchy performance shocked the audience and brought a quick reaction on social media. MSNBC anchor Mika Brzezinksi described it as disturbing disgusting, and cringe-worthy.
The Breaking Bad DEA agent and his wife (actors Dean Norris and Betsy Brandt) look equally horrified at what they are seeing on their flat-screen TV (see embed above). Attending in person, Will Smith and family were also stunned by the Sunday night performance.
Actually what you can see above is a parody mash-up from the two shows. In Sunday evening’s Breaking Bad episode (spoiler alert in case it’s still unwatched on your DVR), Walter White (Bryan Cranston) recorded a so-called confession and burned it to a DVD. This was a deviously brilliant swerve that turned out to be a form of blackmail against his brother-in-law Hank to prevent him from blowing the whistle on White’s meth empire, hence the characters’ appalled looks.
The clever combination of two clips was made by San Barnett, a a cinematography student at Ireland’s Ballyfermot College of Further Education. According to AdAge, “The emotions that flicker across their faces — disbelief, astonishment, confusion, horror, revulsion, etc. — sync up perfectly with the collective cultural response to Miley’s ‘performance.’ And with that, TV right now is perfectly encapsulated.”
Describing the now-viral combo video, EOnline aptly notes that “And just like the audience and the rest of America, [Hank and Marie’s] reaction is what can only be described as part mystified, part disgusted. We’ll just call it mys-gusted.”
