Naomi Watts who is a two-times Oscar nominee stars as Diana. Also starring Naveen Andrews in the role of Hasnat Khan and features Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James, Charles Edwards, and Juliet Stevenson.
The film screenplay, written by award winner Stephen Jeffries is based on the book Diana: Her Last Love which is a compilation of the Princess of Wales conversations with confidants and close friends about her personal life.
Diana takes place from 1995, when after her divorce from Prince Charles she was seen as an outcast in the eyes of the Palace, until the time of her tragic death in Paris in 1997.
The book claims that Princess Diana had fallen madly in love with Pakistani heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan and reportedly wanted to marry him.
But the doctor felt incredible pressure, due to Diana’s popularity and the constant attention from the paparazzi, which caused the relationship to end.
Diana, who at the time was trying to become her own person, away from royal life, was deeply involved with several charities, including the Halo Trust, an organization that clears land mines left behind after wars.
Her fame though, was inescapable and haunted her until the time of her death.
It is speculated that, in an aim to get back at Kahn for ending the affair, Diana started seeing Egyptian millionaire Dodi al-Fayed, the trailer shows a clip of Dr. Khan looking at images of Diana and al-Fayed vacationing together with jealous eyes.
Princess Diana was killed alongside Dodi al-Fayed while escaping paparazzi in a tunnel in Paris on August 31, 1997. She was 36-years-old.
