Law And Order: SVU Takes On Trayvon Martin And Paula Deen In Same Episode
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit is pulling out all the stops for season 15 with rumors of an episode which features both the Trayvon Martin case along with the Paula Deen scandal.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Executive Producer Warren Leight said that he looks to the deadlines of the day to figure out exactly what issues they should be dealing with.
According to the report, SVU writers have taken things one step further and combined two of the year’s biggest headlines: The trial of Zimmerman over the killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin and the Paula Deen scandal.
“[Jeffrey] Tambor is a defense attorney representing a very high-profile celebrity woman chef who thought she was being pursued by a rapist and turned around it was a teenager. And she shot him,” said Leight in an interview with EW.
“There’s a lot of stop and frisk elements to that as well.”
According to the Huffington Post, actress Cybil Shepard was seen filming the upcoming episode.
“Shepherd and her legal team try to leave the court, they’re swarmed by a gaggle of reporters and confronted with angry people waving signs similar to the ones seen at dozens of rallies held in honor of Martin.”
This is sure to be a controversial episode, especially with two big hitting headlines stuffed into one episode.
According to Leight, it even exposed divisions within the SVU team.
“When the script was published it became a litmus test for everybody here,” he said.
“It was really interesting to see people read that script and have different interpretations about who did what and whether or not they deserved prison for it. It was fascinating.”
According to to Entertainment Weekly, the episode is set to air as the third episode of the season, which will debut with a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, Septemer 25 at 9 P.M. on NBC.
The Law and Order: Special Victims Unit Trayvon Martin and Paula Deen episode is sure to draw viewers in, so get ready, this season is going to get intense!
