Christina Hendricks To Play A Stripper In Dark Places
Christina Hendricks has been cast in the film adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel Dark Places.
The film also stars Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, and Corey Stoll. Giles Paquet-Brenner will direct.
Dark Places focuses on Libby Day (Theron), who, as a child, survived the brutal murder of her family in what appears to be a Satanic cult ritual. She later testifies in court against her teenage brother, Ben (Stoll). Twenty-five years later, she is approached by Hoult’s vigilante investigator group the Kill Club, who believe Ben is innocent. Libby is then forced to reevaluate her version of events.
Hendricks will play Krissi Cates, a down-on-her-luck stripper who accuses Ben of being a child molester. Krissi also has a secret about what really happened to the Day family.
Dark Places, which is Flynn’s second novel, is also her second book to get a film adaptation. Her most recent novel, Gone Girl, will be directed by David Fincher, and is scheduled for a 2015 release. Ben Affleck will star as Nick Dunne, and Rosamund Pike has been cast as his wife, Amy. In the novel, Amy goes missing on her and Nick’s fifth wedding anniversary, and Nick has to prove that he isn’t responsible for her disappearance and assumed death.
Reese Witherspoon’s production company and 20th Century Fox secured the rights to the film adaptation for $1.5 million. It was believed that Witherspoon would star in the film herself, but she will only be producing, along with Leslie Dixon and Bruna Papandrea.
Christina Hendricks has a lot on her plate right now. The 38-year-old is currently filming God’s Pocket, which is directed by Mad Men co-star John Slattery. The film also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Torturro, Eddie McGee, and Richard Jenkins. She also has two films in post-production — Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy and How To Catch a Monster — and two films in pre-production, Seconds of Pleasure, and Measure of a Man.
