Sylvester Stallone is currently in talks to star in a television series based on the Rambo franchise.
Not only could the Expendables alum reprise his role as the Vietnam veteran in the TV show, Stallone will also provide some creative input . It’s unclear how involved the actor will be behind-the-scenes.
Avi Lerner’s Nu Image is joining forces with Entertainment One to bring the Rambo TV show to life. Although eOne Television CEO John Morayniss issued a statement about the proposed series on Wednesday (August 21), he didn’t confirm Sylvester Stallone’s involvement with the project.
“The ability to fuse the big screen and the small screen through Avi’s feature film expertise and eOne’s domestic production capabilities and international distribution infrastructure, makes for a highly complementary partnership,” Morayniss explained.
In other words, Entertainment One and Nu Image think the movies are popular enough to spin the character off into a television series. The companies are hoping Stallone’s recent box office success will translate into strong ratings.
The Bullet to the Head star proved there was still life in the character with his incredibly gritty 2008 action flick Rambo. The $50 million endeavor earned a respectable $113 million worldwide during its theatrical run.
Action veteran Avi Lerner, a man who has produced a few Rambo features in his day, is understandably thrilled about returning to the property once again.
“I’m excited by the prospect of collaborating again with my good friend Sly for an encore in this next phase of the Rambo legacy,” the producer said in a statement .
While Sylvester Stallone chews over the possibility of playing John Rambo one more time, he is staying busy with his upcoming sequel The Expendables 3 . The film reportedly began production in Bulgaria earlier this week. Check out a pic of the actor on-set below.
