The latest Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag trailer is a live action romp that dares you to “defy.”
Live action trailers for video games are quite the rarity these days, as the special effects alone can net a pretty massive budget before you even get to the actors. Of course with a Watch Dogs theatrical release on its way, as previously reported by The Inquisitr , it doesn’t look like Ubisoft is exactly that worried about money issues with filming.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag follows the adventures of Edward Kenway, a British pirate in the Caribbean, as he searches for treasure and takes out Templars not only on the high seas, but also in parkour-friendly cities and tombs. This will be the first time one of Desmond Miles’ ancestors will dive under the sea to achieve goals, requiring him to leave most of his clothes and weapons behind on the boat and relying on stealth to take out enemies on land.
The live action trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag begins underwater, as we see what appears to be a dead man in a stylish white shirt floating perfectly still. The camera pans up to reveal a small army of dead bodies, and then a ship above everything else. Various items float alongside the dead bodies. The camera pans up through the hull and we see even more people, still alive and struggling to make it to the upper levels as the water rises among them.
The upper level is full of pirates fighting, and one of them stomps the hatch shut, trapping those below in a watery grave. The next level up is the deck, where men with guns also fight before being overtaken by others with swords. The fight reduces to fisticuffs as some of the men climb the ropes to the sails. Above it all, perched on the mast, is our hero.
A voice-over speaks through it, “Men dream, but dreams hold no value here. What was first the bright light of hope has turned into a long night of captivity. Lost in dark, we surrender our minds and forget who we are. But some of us have woken up. They remind us that we all have a choice, to stand or kneel. To oppose or to obey, to live or just exist.”
