Ashley Pettiford, the girlfriend of Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson, said he shoved her before he was arrested for domestic violence Saturday.
Police were called to Lawson’s Denver home around 9 am Saturday in response to a domestic argument. Pettiford, also known as Ashley King from Bad Girls Club, said that she and Lawson were arguing because she overheard him talking to another woman on the phone the night before. She said she tried to pack her things and leave, but Lawson pushed her on the bed . She then threw his phone and broke it. He took her phone and submerged it in water.
Ashley Pettiford is six months pregnant, and said she knew her baby was okay after the fight because she felt it moving afterward.
Lawson was placed under arrest on suspicion of domestic violence , criminal mischief, and harassment. He was arraigned in Arapahoe County Court Monday and released on $1,000 bond. Pettiford was also arrested for criminal mischief and domestic violence, and released on $1,000 bond.
A mandatory restraining order was issued against Lawson, prohibiting him from contacting Pettiford.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said the dispute “was a mutual situation and as a result our deputies made the decision that there was probable cause to arrest both parties.” It is unclear who called police.
Lawson was arrested on January 29 for a warrant issued in July 2012 for failure to appear in court. He had been charged with driving under restraint and careless driving.
Denver Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said in a statement:
“We are fully aware of an incident involving Ty Lawson over the weekend. Per team policy and out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment at this time.”
Ty Lawson recently signed a four-year, $48 million contract extension with the Nuggets that goes into effect this season. Last season, he averaged 16.7 points, 1.5 steals, and 6.9 assists.
