PS4 Release Date Announced: Set Your Calendars To November

The PS4 release date for North America and for Europe were announced Tuesday at a press event in Germany, according to a report from Deadline.

PlayStation Group president and CEO Andrew House said that November 15 would be the day customers in North America could get their hands on the highly anticipated gaming console while the PS4 release date for Europe will come just two weeks later on November 29.

The website noted that these announcements were the last remaining mysteries regarding the next-gen unit that was featured prominently by the company in June.

During that time, it was announced that the Sony PlayStation Network would have enhanced video and music programming.

“Sony Pictures will do everything in our power to drive the success of the PlayStation 4 by developing programming with gamers in mind and providing access to incredible content,” said Michael Lynton, chairman of Sony Entertainment.

The unit will also clock in at $100 cheaper than what is sure to be its fiercest competitor, the Xbox One over at Microsoft.

Not to be outdone, Microsoft announced 23 new titles to its own next-gen console on Tuesday.

The Inquisitr’s own David Cornell brought a full rundown of the releases earlier today, and you can find that report here.

Unlike the PS4’s announcements, fans haven’t been as keen on Microsoft’s handling of their future entertainment box.

In June, as both companies geared up for the E3 event, there were details aplenty, and most of what potential Xbox buyers heard was viewed as condescending (at best).

In addition to paying $100 more, they were told there would be no backwards compatibility, no used game support, and users would be required to check in every 24 hours via live Internet connection.

The company faced a backlash that led them to reverse those decisions, but for many — this Xbox 360 owner included — the damage has already been done.

Ultimately, for many, Microsoft’s initial decisions are true indicators of where the company is heading. The temporary pullback is most likely a cash grab in the face of diminishing public sentiment, making PS4 a more attractive option if you actually feel like you need a next-gen console.

So are you still Team Microsoft or will you be lining up for its competition on the PS4 release date?
