Katy Perry To Close VMAs, Hits New Career High
It’s not too bad to be Katy Perry right now. Her footing in her relationship with John Mayer seems to be solid, and she’s making new career highs for herself. Today it was announced that Perry is making chart history with her new song “Roar”.
The single is off her fourth album Prism, which is set to hit shelves on October 22. According to Billboard reports have come in that “Roar” is expected to reach sales that break the record she set with her hit single “Firework”. Roar will be downloaded in the range of 525,000 to 550,000 which makes “Roar” the biggest debut on iTunes.
That’s not all for Katy Perry’s week of highs. It’s being reported that Perry will also close the VMAs. The coveted spot marks Perry’s fourth time performing at the VMAs. In the past she performed hits like “Firework”, and “I Kissed A Girl”. This time around Perry is staged to close with “Roar” at the VMAs on Sunday from “an undisclosed location.”
In addition, Pepsi is set to collaborate with Katy Perry by giving away downloads of “Roar” to anyone who registers for the Pepsi Experience Points rewards program. That’s sure to up the downloads on the single. The Pepsi move is said to be set by a partnering with MTV.
In a statement made by MTV’s senior VP of integrated marketing, Rachel Baumgarten, said:
“We are always looking to break new ground with Pepsi and create programs together that top anything we’ve ever done before. With this program, Pepsi and MTV are culminating a summer long program that provided fans with content and access to the talent that they love and the VMA piece of it all takes that premise to a whole new level.”
