The first teaser trailer for Girls season 3 has been released, and it is entirely comprised of production stills.

Unfortunately, this means that it’s impossible to work out what any possible story arcs will feature over the course of the future episodes, but it does enough to increase expectation for the show’s return.

The stills teaser , which is set to, “Break Out The Boom Boom,” by Robert ToTeras, sees behind the scenes images of scripts, cameras, production staff, and clapperboards mixed with photographs of the entire cast.

Lena Dunham’s Hannah Horvath, Allison Williams’ Marnie Michaels, Jemima Kirke’s Jessa Johansson, and Zosia Mamet’s Shoshanna Shapiro each come across as happy, and we see them dancing at apartment parties and even chilling out on a beach.

Hannah can also be seen hugging and chatting with Adam Driver’s Adam Sackler, who she heroically rekindle her relationship with at the end of season two.

Alongside Dunham, Williams, Kirke, Mamet and Driver, Andrew Rannells will also return, while The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Felicity Jones, Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Zegen, Jennifer Westfeldt, Gabby Hoffman, Sarah Steel, Melonie Diaz have all been confirmed to appear in forthcoming instalments too.

Meanwhile, they won’t be joined by Christopher Abbot, who played Charlie Dattolo, Marnie’s repeated love interest in the show for the last two seasons, after he left Girls in April, after clashing heads with Dunham over creative differences.

A source revealed that the duo were constantly at odds with one another and Abbott reportedly told her he “didn’t like the directions things are going in.”

Abbott then released a statement, via a representative, that read, “[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow] and the entire Girls cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.”
