A sad, scary, and hopefully false rumor is floating around the internet today. Several One Direction fans have reportedly committed suicide after watching a documentary about the group.
The documentary, Crazy About One Direction , paints 1D fans as obsessive. One Direction fans took to Twitter, insisting that they weren’t as crazy as the documentary makes them out to be, and started the hashtag #ThisIsNotUs in protest.
Twitter has also been filled with a rumor that 42 people committed suicide after watching the documentary.
None of the deaths have been confirmed but the rumors are causing some concern among the members of One Direction.
Liam Payne took to Twitter, writing: “Hearing some horrible things… Really hope this isn’t true.”
Payne also defended his fans saying that the documentary was “dramatized for entertainment” and “full of bullsh*t.”
Payne writes: “We couldn’t give a f*ck what any documentary says there dramatized for entertainment and full of ******** anyway we all know how hard you work for us and see it everyday at our shows.”
It’s unclear if the Channel 4 documentary has actually been the reason behind any One Direction suicides but it’s clear that 1D fans are not happy about their portrayal in the film.
The station defended the documentary saying that it portrayed specific One Direction fans and did not attempt to portray all 1D fans.
Channel 4 said: “This documentary made by an award-winning filmmaker followed a number of fans who, by their own admission, are obsessive about the band. Whilst not suggesting that the girls featured represent all 1D fans, it examined the impact social media has had on teenage fandom and how it has developed a new form of idol worship for many teenage girls. Both Channel 4 and the film makers took the utmost care to produce a documentary with genuine affection and respect for the fans.”
Not really sure what’s going on right now I just hope everyone’s ok xxx

One Direction fans are definitely passionate about their band but let’s hope that no one was so obsessed with not being obsessed that they committed suicide.
[Update: The rumors are not true. ]
