The new Diablo 3 console trailer makes you wonder what you just heard.
Diablo is one of the first dungeon crawl RPGs made by Blizzard, and it changed the way we played the genre. It introduced us to the world of Sanctuary, where the devil himself is attempting to break free of his eternal prison and engulf the world in chaos.
Twenty years after the events of Diablo 2, Deckard Cain and his niece Leah are working on an ominous prophecy in the Tristram Cathedral when a meteorite strikes the building, and Deckard Cain turns up missing. It appears something with dark powers doesn’t want that prophecy figured out. The cathedral that played home to the first Diablo has been wiped out and is now replaced with a hole through which the undead are rising. King Leoric, the former ruler of Tristram, is now the Skeleton King, and in order to reach the falling star, he must be destroyed.
The Diablo 3 console trailer starts out a bit misleading as a guy walks into his house and yells, “Guess who’s home early!” He hears people yelling upstairs and sees clothes littering the stairway. Upset and silent, he decides to investigate.
He follows the trail of clothes to find three people, including his wife, sitting semi naked on the couch and playing Diablo 3 on PlayStation 3 with another couple. She invites him, “Hey hun. Sit down, we’ll make a foursome.”
Then we see some gameplay footage of a giant monster breathing green fire over the gathered party as they fight it. A blue walkway intersection is littered with fire and mysteriously lit columns. A massive platform over a sea of lava, complete with spikes around the edge, contains another giant monster as another team of players attacks it.
A voiceover says over all of this, “September third, grab your friends and go to Hell. Diablo 3, coming to consoles September third.”
After all this we see the guy shirtless as he says, “I’mma put my pants back on.”
