Simon Pegg Tweets Picture Of Ant-Man, Casting Rumors Take Flight
Is Simon Pegg in line to tackle the role of Ant-Man in director Edgar Wright’s upcoming adaptation? That all depends on how you approach the actor’s latest tweet.
Since it doesn’t take much to get rumors started these days, many people seem to think that the Shaun of the Dead star will re-team with Wright once again for the upcoming Marvel Studios movie. As of this writing, the role hasn’t been officially cast.
Here’s what happened: Pegg recently paid a visit to Marvel’s New York City office. While he was enjoying the sights, he decided to pose for a picture next to Ant-Man. Why was the actor pointing at the character? Probably because his long-time friend and collaborator is directing the movie.
Since it’s not uncommon for actors to leak details in such a capacity — Vin Diesel’s recent Groot image on Facebook is a good example — people got really excited about Simon Pegg possibly tackling the role of Ant-Man. However, the Star Trek Into Darkness star was quick to squash these rumors.
“FFS the Internet, all I did was point at the central character in my dear friend’s next movie, because I’m excited for him,” he tweeted shortly after reports started making the rounds.
To be completely fair, Pegg and Wright have worked together several times in the past. The pair previously joined forces for The World’s End, Hot Fuzz, and the aforementioned zombie classic. For the time being, it would seem that fans have gotten their hopes up for nothing.
Ryan Penagos, the Executive Editorial Director of Marvel’s Digital Media Group, recently reached out to Slashfilm’s Peter Sciretta to clear the air. According to him, Pegg was just in New York City for a tour and a podcast. His image didn’t contain any hidden casting details.
Here the tweet that got movie sites buzzing.
