After Bachelor contestant Gia Allemand dies of a suicide, speculation has begun that her relationship with NBA forward Ryan Anderson may have been at the heart of her struggles.
Anderson found the former Bachelor contestant Monday night after she had attempted suicide by hanging herself. Gia Allemand was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans and placed on life support, but suffered a critical loss of brain and organ function. On Wednesday Gia’s family took her off life support.
Ryan Anderson was by Gia’s side when she died, and issued a statement afterward saying he was grateful for the love and support from family and friends.
“Gia was the most beautiful person I knew inside and out and she always smiled and made everyone else around her smile,” Anderson said in the statement. “She had such an amazing impact on my life and anyone that knew her was blessed. All I have left is to cherish those memories we made together and help perpetuate the many values, faith and love that we shared.”
But reports say it was troubles in her relationship with Anderson that led to the Bachelor contestant to commit suicide. Radar Online reported that the couple had their first major fight over whether Ryan would propose to Gia, which reportedly was growing in importance for her as she turned 30.
A representative for the family quickly shot down those reports, however, saying that Gia and Ryan were deeply in love .
“The reasons for a young woman to take her own life can not be explained or placed on one situation,” the rep said. “Depression is a sad disease and it kills.”
Those close to GIa, including former Bachelor contestants and Jake Pavelka, who sent her home in the final three of her season, remembered Gia as a gentle-hearted and deeply caring person.
Those close to Gia Allemand also say the Bachelor contestant dies leaving few signs that she may have been considering suicide.
