Several famous rockers died when they were 27 years old.

Most of the time, these rockers are taken from us as a result of drugs, either illegal or prescription, but their loss isn’t felt any less as a result.

Ron “Pigpen” McKernan of The Grateful Dead was their first frontman, given the nickname due to his lack of personal hygiene. Failing health due to alcoholism led to his death less than a year after leaving the band.

Amy Winehouse was a British pop star known for her drug and alcohol addiction and failing health. In a twist of irony, she had recorded the song Rehab shortly before passing away from alcohol poisoning.

Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones was a founding member of one of the most famous rock bands in history, and only a month after being kicked out of the band, he was found drowned in his own swimming pool. Brian Jones’ drug problem was the cause of most of the famous rocker’s issues, and possibly his death.

Janis Joplin was a solo star and singer for Big Brother And The Holding Company, and a victim of drug and alcohol abuse. She was found dead in her hotel room with fresh needle marks in her arm and $4.50 in her hand, indicating a drug overdose.

Jimi Hendrix was a wizard with a guitar. He is not only known as one of the greatest guitar soloists to ever live, but he was even known to play the instrument in unusual ways. This rock legend was taken from us with a mix of red wine and a strong dose of sleeping pills as he died of asphyxiation in his girlfriend’s London apartment.

Jim Morrison of The Doors is a mysterious case. According to Val Kilmer’s portrayal of the frontman in the Oliver Stone film, he was found dead in his bathtub after a heart failure. The lack of an autopsy has led to some conspiracy theories about what really happened, but the official story is that famous rocker Jim Morrison is dead.

Kurt Cobain is one of the most famous rockers of the current generation. The frontman for Nirvana rose to fame quickly, so quickly in fact that less than three years into it, he was found an apparent victim of suicide by shotgun. It has been debated that it was an assisted death fueled by a jealous ex-girlfriend, but no solid evidence points to the suggestion.
