[Watch] Jozy Altidore Hat Trick Extends US Winning Streak

Jozy Altidore led the US to victory during a Wednesday match against Bosnia-Herzegovina, with a final score of 4-3 rounding out a 12 game run of wins.

Jozy Altidore’s hat trick helped the US achieve a winning streak that is currently the longest in the world… but a few tense moments in Wednesday’s Bosnia-Herzegovina match made it look as if the American team might drop the ball on their consecutive wins.

Sports Illustrated reports that the US team has been rallying since early June, noting:

“Altidore has scored in five straight games, a first for a US player, and also had an assist on Eddie Johnson’s goal. It was the first time the U.S. has come back to win a game in Europe, and gives the Americans two victories over top-15 teams during their winning streak after a 4-3 victory over No. 2 Germany on June 2 that started the run.”

The mag quotes Jozy Altidore as saying the 12th straight win has made the team incredibly confident and spirits are high after the victory.

“It feels great… More than anything, as a team, we win another game. Our confidence is high.””

He said that the US team rallied at halftime and pulled together to pull off the 12th straight win:

“We came in (at halftime) and said, ‘Listen we can beat this team.’ We came in and said, `We have more weapons, we’re just as confident as they are. We just have to put more passes together and be more confident.’ And you saw that in the second half, we created so many chances.”
