Powerball Winner Will Pay For Dad’s Cancer Treatments, Then ‘Disappear’ [Video]
Powerball winner Will Seeley already knows what he’s going to do with his slice of the “Ocean’s 16” pot. He’s going to pay for his dad’s cancer treatments, and then he’s going to “disappear” into the woods.
Seeley stood out among the 16 New Jersey office pool winners due to his appearance and outspoken manner. Still, he doesn’t seem to care much for the spotlight, and told TODAY’s Matt Lauer that he’s probably going to go off the radar after he cashes his $3.8 million check.
“We’ve only been like this for a couple of days. I don’t know if I want to go through this for the rest of my life,” Seeley said of all the attention he has gotten. “I would rather be in my cabin up in the woods.”
In fact, that’s probably exactly where he’ll go. He said he might continue to work, though not necessarily at his current job.
“But then again, I just might disappear into the woods and hunt and fish every day,” he said.
But first thing’s first. Seeley visited his father, who is about to undergo a second round of chemotherapy, to tell him not to worry about his medical bills. “I just told him, you don’t have to worry about nothing financially except getting healthy and beating cancer,” he said. Seeley lost his mother to cancer years earlier.
Seeley was one of 16 office workers in Ocean County, New Jersey, who chipped in for the August 7 drawing worth $86 million. They were nicknamed the “Ocean’s 16” after the popular film franchise that began with Ocean’s 11.
After taxes, Seeley and each of his co-workers walks away with a whopping $3.8 million.
“I’m going to do what I want to do,” Seeley said of his future plans, before turning to his wife. “We can do what we want to do.”
