Gia Allemand Dead, ‘Bachelor’ Star Was 29
Gia Allemand died Wednesday at a New Orleans hospital following a serious emergency medical event. She was 29.
The former Bachelor star passed away Wednesday after being taken to University Hospital on Monday night. A rep for the reality star, who appeared on season 14 of the hit reality series, confirmed that she died after being listed in critical condition for unknown reasons. Similarly her cause of death is still unknown.
She was placed on life support, and her mother and boyfriend (NBA basketball player Ryan Anderson of the New Orleans Pelicans) were by her side.
The lack of details and updates following her hospitalization led many to believe that Gia Allemand had died. A statement provided through family reps early Wednesday called for privacy, but did not reveal anything new about her condition.
“On behalf of the family, we kindly ask for privacy at this time,” the statement said. “Further statements will be released as more information becomes available.”
Gossiping Pens reported that the reality starlet had died Wednesday, but removed the post. The news has since been confirmed by E! News, NBC and others.
Leading up to her unfortunate death, many of her family and friends took to Twitter to share updates, but concrete details were sparse.
“@GiaAllemand is on life support w little pulse and barely breathing..cause unknown..next 48 hours critical please pray for Gia everyone,” wrote Melinda Farina, a close friend of Allemand’s.
Her last Twitter update was 58 minutes ago, and does not reflect her friend’s death, leading many publications to assume that the Bachelor contestant died within the last hour.
