Dallas Cowboys Tops List Of Most Valuable NFL Teams In 2013
Despite 17 years without a Super Bowl ring, the Dallas Cowboys are still on top of Forbes‘ most valuable NFL franchise list.
The Cowboys have topped the NFL list for the last seven years but are followed by several other beloved teams and even a few who have managed to win a recent Super Bowl title.
According to the publication, the Dallas Cowboys are worth a mind-blowing $2.3 billion. In second place is the New England Patriots with a value of $1.8 billion. Following in third place are the Washington Redskins with a team value of $1.7 billion and then the New York Giant which carry a value of $1.55 billion. Rounding out the Forbes top 5 list for most valuable NFL franchises are the Texans with a club price tag of $1.45 billion.
Despite an inability to win a Super Bowl ring in 17 years and some really awful play over that same period, the Cowboys have been helped along by a rabid Texas fan base. Visit the state, and you’ll find high school football players being treated just like NFL royalty.
It didn’t hurt the Cowboys’ value when AT&T paid $500 million over the off-season to put its name on the team’s four-year old stadium.
It also didn’t hurt the Cowboys’ value when owner Jerry Jones opted to be the only franchise to distribute and control its own merchandise supply chain.
There are still nine teams worth less than $1 billion they include (in order of declining value): Arizona Cardinals, San Diego Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, St. Louis Rams, Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Oakland Raiders.
The biggest victor this past year was the Baltimore Ravens, whose value rose from 1.16 billion to $1.22 billion follow the teams Super Bowl championship.
Also in the top 10 are the New York Jets ($1.38 billion), Chicago Bears($1.25 billion), and San Francisco 49ers ($1.2 billion).
The Cowboys top the list despite failing to even make the playoffs in 10 of the last 17 seasons.
Are you surprised by the Dallas Cowboys wealth or any of the other teams on Forbes’ list of most valuable NFL teams?
