Alaska Serial Killer Israel Keyes Connected To At Least 11 Murders, Says FBI
Alaska serial killer Israel Keyes has been tied to 11 murders by the FBI.
According to CNN, federal agents are now looking overseas to see if they can connect Keyes to killings in other countries.
Keyes, who committed suicide in his jail cell last December, was responsible for at least 8 murders. The FBI now believes that the Alaska serial killer is responsible for at least three other murders.
Special Agent Jolen Goeden said that Keyes left several clues for the FBI about additional killings. After he was arrested for the abduction and murder of Anchorage barista Samantha Koening, Keyes revealed the names of two possible victims and told agents about his extensive travels around the country and overseas.
Goeden said: “He gave us a number of clues… He talked openly about some of the homicides, but much of what he said only hinted at the things he had done. So we are trying to get information out there about what he did tell us. We are letting the public know the types of cars he rented, towns he visited, campgrounds he frequented. Anything that might spur someone’s memory could help us.”
Goeden said that the FBI is working with police agencies around the country to see if they can link Keyes to any open cases.
Goeden said: “If we have a missing person identified in a particular area, we work closely with that local police department to either connect the person to Keyes or not… We have his DNA.”
The FBI said that Keyes put a tremendous amount of planning into his murders despite the fact that he chose his victims at random. The Alaska serial killer would place “murder kits” in various locations to help him dispose of bodies and truly enjoyed killing people.
Goeden said: “Although he chose many of his victims randomly, a tremendous amount of planning went into these crimes. Keyes enjoyed what he did, and he had no remorse at all. He told us if he hadn’t been caught he would have continued kidnapping and murdering people.”
