‘Duck Dynasty’ Star For Congress Touted [Rumor]
Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson for Congress?
Some Republicans strategists want him to run for office in Louisana’s 5th congressional district. The seat will become vacant next month when incumbent Rodney Alexander — who is friendly with the Robertson family — resigns to join Gov. Bobby Jindal’s cabinet. A special election will follow for the seat in the US House of Representatives.
Robertson, the self-named redneck millionaire, is shown above with country star Jason Aldean.
Alexander represents the 5th district which includes the West Monroe, La., home of the so-called Duck Dynasty portrayed on the TV hit on the A&E network. The Robertson family — with Willie as the CEO — owns and operates the Duck Commander and Buck Commander companies out of its West Monroe warehouse. It has become a huge tourist magnet since the A&E series began.
The reality show follows the eccentric and fun-loving Robertson family in Louisiana and has consistently brought in stellar ratings for the network. With 9.6 million viewers, it is the highest rated telecast in the network’s history.
According to the Washington Examiner, which broke the story, “‘My boys want to run Willie Robertson for the seat,’ said a key outside advisor to House GOP leadership. The source said that efforts are being made to interest Robertson into running.” Another unnamed GOP operative threw cold water on the idea, however: “Why would a multi-millionaire, TV sensation give up that work to run for a congressional seat?”
The New York Daily News observes that “…the stars of the show, among cable’s most watched programs, also devote time to a message of Christian faith, family values and the right to bear arms — all themes that would fit in well with a possible Republican campaign.” Willie Robertson has previously said that “Faith, family and ducks — in that order — have always been our priorities.”
So far the Robertson family as yet to make a public comment about the supposed run for Congress.
Robertson and his wife Korie have five children, two of whom are adopted.
Do you think Willie Robertson will actually jump into politics and thereby give up his sweet gig on A&E?
