Amazon cites ‘individual choice’ in keeping a self-published book for pedophiles in its listing
It might only be the 158,221st best-selling Kindle e-book on Amazon but the fact that it is a book titled The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure has created a growing firestorm on blogs and Twitter.
The reason apparently that the e-book has slipped in under the radar apparently has to do with the way Amazon handles submissions to their self-published e-books for the Kindle.
According to Amazon though as they stated in an email to a commenter on another blog they have to take into consideration things like people’s freedom of choice as well as worrying about the implications of censorship.
“Let me assure you that Amazon.com does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts; we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions.”
“Amazon.com believes it is censorship not to sell certain titles because we believe their message is objectionable.”
Here is a screencap, courtesy of the team at The Next Web, of the page where the e-book is listed for sale on Amazon:
I have a strong feeling that the firestorm has only just started.
