Tom Hiddleston Trades Loki For Captain Hook In Disney’s ‘The Pirate Fairy’
Tom Hiddleston might be done with Loki after Thor: The Dark World, but that doesn’t mean he’s done playing super villain characters altogether. At Disney’s D23 Expo in California, Hiddleston confirmed that he’ll actually be playing another iconic villain in an upcoming film: Captain Hook.
USA Today reports that DIsney’s new animated feature The Pirate Fairy will see the 32-year-old actor playing “James” while Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks will voice a new fairy character named Zarina.
The film is part of Disney’s Tinker Bell franchise, and will apparently be the first in which Neverland is shown, reports The Mary Sue.
Here’s a synopsis:
“When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina steals Pixie Hollow?s all-important Blue Pixie Dust, and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place. However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink?s world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow.”
What’s more, Hiddleston’s Hook won’t be revealed as the villain right away.
“James and Zarina are like best friends for a while. But you realize it’s all an act and he’s covering his ruthless and cunning nature,” said Hiddleston. “And his real name is Captain Hook. Captain James Hook.”
“He’s Hook before the hook,” added director Peggy Holmes.
Hendricks describes her new character, Zarina, as a “scrappy and inquisitive and smart and scientific and daring and really fun to play.” Holmes calls her “a tough, kick-ass pirate with some vulnerability.”
Oh, and we should mention that Hiddleston will be singing in this one, too. Try to control yourselves, ladies.
The Pirate Fairy will be released in the spring of 2014. Are you looking forward to seeing Tom Hiddleston play Captain Hook?
