Congress Doesn’t Deserve Summer Vacation, Says New Poll

Congress started their 5-week summer recess on Monday, but their employers (the American people) don’t think they’ve earned it.

A new poll shows that a whopping 82 percent of Americans don’t think that Congress should get their vacation. This has something to do with them really not doing much of anything over the past several years but bicker.

Only about 14 percent of Americans think that their August break is well-deserved, with Fox News deadpanning that those respondents are likely Congress’ friends and family.

More voters do think that President Obama deserves a break from the partisan gridlock in Washington. About 48 percent think he has worked hard enough to take his week’s vacation later this month while 48 percent do not.

Splitting that up among political parties, 80 percent of Democrats, 36 percent of independents and 23 percent of Republicans think he deserves his vacation.

Congress is also still getting poor marks from voters across the board. about 66 percent think Republicans in Congress are doing a terrible job, and 60 percent hold the same view of Democrats.

Split that up among political parties, and 46 percent of Republicans disapprove of the GOP’s performance in Congress while 32 percent of Democrats disapprove of their party’s performance.

President Obama’s approval has dipped as well. About 42 percent of voters still approve of the job he’s doing, which dropped from 46 percent in July.

On the reverse, 52 percent of voters disapprove of President Obama’s job performance, which is the highest this number has been since September 2010.

Do you think that Congress deserves their summer recess? What do you think of the job President Obama is doing?
