UK Game Sales See Worst Month In History
UK game sales have seen their worst month in recorded history.
It may be the heat that’s keeping everybody indoors and not out buying games, or it could be the lack of original games released last month. Nobody knows the real reason, but July was the worst month in history for game sales in the UK.
Of course, the heat keeping everybody indoors might have nothing to do with it, since if one has internet access on their console, one can always download new games from the comfort of one’s own air-conditioned home. In that way, the heat may only be part of the problem, unless it’s retail sales they’re talking about.
Sony and Nintendo, on the other hand, have less reason to complain about the flagging UK game sales. The Last Of Us, a PlayStation 3 exclusive, was the month’s top seller, coming in only second in sales for the year. Nintendo holds most of the top spots otherwise with Pikmin 3, Mario And Luigi: Dream Team Bros., and Dynasty Warriors 8. Pikmin 3 debuted at number two in the UK, making Nintendo a happy camper.
Nintendo has also reported positive sales for the 3DS, though the Wii U has been getting pulled from store shelves before some big games come out for it, leaving retailers possibly missing out on the profits.
Here are the top ten UK game sales for the month of July, among which only those mentioned above are new:
1) The Last Of Us – A man and a teenage girl must survive a zombie and mutant outbreak and reach the safety promised in a secret bunker.
2) Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition – Dig and build your way through one of the most deceptively creative games of our time.
3) Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Return to the world of Animal Crossing as the Mayor.
4) FIFA 13 – Last year’s soccer (football for everybody but the US) game from Electronic Arts.
5) Far Cry 3 – Return to the island in search of alien technology.
6) Mario And Luigi: Dream Team Bros. – Mario must survive the world of Luigi’s dreams.
7) Tomb Raider – Lara Croft’s boat crashes on an island and she must survive and become the infamous tomb raider.
8) Assassin’s Creed III – Desmond Miles returns to the Animus to play out the memories of his Native American ancestor in the US Civil War.
9) Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 – The latest chapter in the ever-popular Call Of Duty franchise.
10) Elders Scolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition – The latest chapter in the role-playing series that changed 3D gameplay for RPGs as we know it.
What do you think of the UK game sales being at their lowest point in history for the month of July?
