Tara Reid really wants to know how whales and sharks have sex.
Since the American Pie actress appeared in the hit SyFy series Sharknado, the folks at the Discovery Channel asked Reid and Ian Ziering to stop by Shark After Dark. The cable network is apparently pulling out all of the stops for this year’s Shark Week.
Although she understands that whale sharks exist, Tara Reid seems to think that they were created after a whale and a shark hooked up underwater. The actress might be pulling the world’s collective leg, but this writer is inclined to think that she’s being dead serious.
“Today, I was like, all right, I don’t wanna, like, sound stupid when I do this show today, like… so I learned a little education on sharks,” Reid told Shark After Dark host Josh Wolf.
She continued, “So I look up sharks on the internet and I see whale sharks so I’m like that must mean that a whale and a shark have sex and then it made me think how do a whale and a shark have sex?”
Since Tara Reid was on a roll, nobody stepped in to stop her. Despite some peculiar looks from both Ziering and Wolf, the actress kept right on going.
“There is a thing called whale sharks and then I realized whales are mammals and sharks are animals so they have nothing to do with each other. So basically the dolphins have sex with each other but the sharks don’t, so then I thought how is it such a thing?” she rambled.
As the laughter started to build and the host mugged for the camera, Reid launched into her grand finale:
But the difference is there is a whale shark which is the biggest shark in the ocean, he’s also scary and then you have the great white who’s also scary. There are over 400 kinds of shark but the whale shark is kind of interesting because he’s so mean — he’s like a killer.

It’s clear that the actress shouldn’t start giving lectures on sharks anytime soon. As soon as that Sharknado 2 script is finished, she should probably just accept the role.
