Much has been said about Jennifer Aniston and her stripping scene in the upcoming comedy We’re the Millers. Unfortunately, it would appear that critics aren’t impressed with her performance.
Reviewers seem to have it out for the former Friends star. In fact, it has to be hard for the actress not to take some of these comments personally. Instead of simply critiquing the movie itself, many have decided to blast the star’s age and sexuality.
One of the worst offenders has to be New York Post critic Kyle Smith . The guy seems to take personal offense to Jennifer Aniston’s scene in We’re the Millers .
“As for Aniston’s much-hyped stripping routine (down to her undies), which befuddles a fierce drug dealer who has apparently never seen boobies before, it’s as sad as her hula dance in Just Go With It. For young actresses to disrobe in exchange for attention is tradition. For 44-year-olds, it’s desperation,” he wrote.
Todd McCarthy didn’t have very many kind words for Jennifer Aniston or We’re the Millers in his Hollywood Reporter review . In fact, he declared her character to be one of the least convincing strippers in cinematic history.
“All of about five seconds are devoted to showing Rose at work going through her motions wearing far more than most soccer moms usually wear at public swimming pools, and the idea that a woman this well groomed and so obviously middle-class would have been plying this trade for 20 years and still look like this defies even a generous extension of disbelief,” he explained in his review.
San Francisco Gate reviewer Mick LaSalle wasn’t nearly as unforgiving as some of his colleagues, but even he seemed to think Jennifer Aniston was a little too old to strip down to her underwear.
“It’s not that she doesn’t look good — actually, she looks great — but there’s an age at which silly and flamboyant display makes emotional and aesthetic sense, and whatever that age is, it’s really, really young. However, on her resume, Aniston can now check off pole dancing,” LaSalle wrote.
Audiences will soon be able to decide for themselves if Aniston is all wrong for the role. The comedy is scheduled to hit theaters this Friday (August 9).
