‘Downton Abbey’ Brings New ‘Handsome Men’ To Season 4
When Downton Abbey airs this fall, we can expect to see some new very handsome men come into the picture as Lady Mary moves on with her life during Season 4.
Fans have yet to forget the traumatic last scene of Season 3 in which new dad and main character Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) was killed in a car accident that left millions in mourning.
During the Summer Press Tour, PBS executives teased that the exit of Dan Stevens offers new opportunities for other suitors to come and try to swoon Mary, who is not the mother of the heir to Downton.
The period drama is extremely successful, not only in the United Kingdom, but around the world, especially in the US where it has become the highest rating series in PBS’s history.
Moreover, the miniseries, created by Julian Fellowes has won nine Emmys and has 13 nominations for Season 3.
Downton Abbey is an international phenomenon the likes which have not been seen in a long time. The difference with other period dramas is that they are usually adaptations, Downton is an original story.
Now that Lady Mary needs a father for her child, we will see some handsome characters come into the show.

A clip shown at a meeting with the Television Critics Association, shows Lady Mary still in mourning finding it difficult to bond with her new child, who was just born before Matthew’s death.
Not many details were shared by cast members, but Michelle Dockery said that Mary will have “more than one love interest,” one of whom is an old family friend and “all quite handsome.”
PBS Executive producer Gareth Neame said “some eligible bachelors” will be descending on Downton.
The clip also shows Mary’s grandmother, played by Maggie Smith, encouraging her to start managing the estate alongside her brother-in-law Tom Branson (Allen Leech), also a widower.
Dockery dismissed suggestions that Mary and Branson get together because of their similar losses. She does say that Mary will have competition from her unlucky sister, Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael).
In a move that is not approved by the patriarch, Lord Gratham (Hugh Bonneville), Edith continues to work as a journalist and visits London often.
Dwonton Abbey, Season 4 comes to the US in January 5, 2014 on PBS.
