After Waffle Tacos from Taco Bell outsold all fellow menu items in five test markets in Southern California, the chain has expanded the breakfast item to 100 more stores.
So now Taco Bell’s Waffle Tacos are coming to three more cities in hopes the Yum Brands chain will carve out a space in the breakfast market.
Fresno, California, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Omaha, Nebraska are all going to get the new item at Taco Bell. Waffle Tacos consist of a waffle folded like a taco, with eggs, sausage, and a side of syrup in case you are high or pregnant or have really horrible taste buds in normal life.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Taco Bell Waffle Taco is one of several strategies the brand has implemented to attract more “millenials” and change up its target market.
The paper cites the new “Live Mas” slogan and the elimination of Taco Bell kids’ meals as markers the chain is trying to beef up its millenial base.
The Times says that the strategy is not yet taking off, adding:
When asked about Taco Bell, 38% of the demographic described the company, a Yum Brands subsidiary along with KFC and Pizza Hut, as ‘typical fast food.’ Nearly 20% saw it as ‘cheap and filling.’ Some 17% characterized the brand as ‘late night meal or snack food.’ Just 1% considered Taco Bell to be ‘hip and edgy.’ ”
Is your city getting Waffle Tacos at Taco Bell, or do you have to wait for the nationwide roll-out?
