Usher’s ex-wife, Tameka Foster, filed for custody of the couple’s two children on Tuesday, just one day after one boy, Usher Raymond the 5th, almost drowned in a backyard pool .
The singer wasn’t at home when his five-year-old son had the accident, but it appears the incident could be the catalyst to an ugly custody battle between the two parents.
Little Usher the 5th was swimming in a backyard pool on Monday when a toy of his fell into the pool’s drain, reports The New York Daily News.
Tameka Foster already lost one son from a different father last year in a jet ski accident. Given that, it’s unsurprising she doesn’t want to let her remaining two sons out of her sight.
But Usher wasn’t at the home where the couple’s son almost drowned on Monday, though the child’s aunt, Rena Oden, was. She, a housekeeper, and a third woman attempted to free the boy’s arm from the drain, but were unsuccessful.
Thankfully, two men working at the home dashed out to help and were able to free the five-year-old. He was given CPR and rushed to the hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery.
TMZ notes that the good outcome isn’t enough for the little boy’s mother , who is possibly holding ex-hubby Usher responsible. The filing came on Tuesday and requests an emergency child custody hearing later this week. In it, Tameka claims that the singer is creating a dangerous environment for the children.
She adds that Usher is giving up his parental responsibilities already by letting other people care for their two sons. Tameka has apparently complained about Rena Oden in the past after she allegedly allowed a stalker inside the same house as Usher and the couple’s two children.
Usher’s ex-wife has also alleged that Oden is too physical when disciplining the children. Usher currently has primary custody of both children and Tameka has limited custodial rights. If she wins at the hearing, those roles will be switched.
