Restaurant Bans Kids After 7 PM

Restaurant bans kids after 7 pm: you read that correctly. It shouldn’t be surprising considering recent moves by other entities to cut back on the presence of screaming, ill-behaved children.

In February, a mall in Australia said no to screaming children, and that same month, The Inquisitr brought you the story of AirAsia X’s kid-free “quiet zones.”

This time around, the Houston-based restaurant La Fisheria is getting in on the action, according to a report from KVUE.com.

What makes this one unusual is the cut-off time. During the summer months especially, 7 pm is still pretty early, and the ban is reportedly for more than just screaming kids, but youngsters in general (anyone under age eight).

The restaurant’s executive chef (and Mexican reality TV star) Aquiles Chavez called the decision, which was reached over the weekend, a “tough” one, but necessary given the amount of customer complaints.

“We find children that are crying, some kids running under tables, and our customers don’t like,” Chavez said. “Seven o’clock is not a time for children, especially when we serve drinks and wine.”

As restaurant bans on kids go, this one is being widely applauded by La Fisheria’s customers. Houston resident Becky Pickens is one of the supporters.

In comments to KVUE, Pickens said, “We just went to three restaurants to have breakfast and left two because of too dang many kids… I think it’s cool.”

Chavez confirmed that the response has been largely positive. “When we explain, they say you’re right, at the end of the day, you’re thinking of us,” Chavez said.

The Houston Chronicle noted that La Fisheria’s Facebook comments are proof of success. The news site pointed out that the decision had racked up more than 100 Likes with this being the first day of implementation.

Of course, not all customers see it that way. Bertran Bilton, another Houston resident, said, “If I had kids under nine, I definitely wouldn’t support them. I believe families should be able to eat together.”

Chavez still contends that the restaurant welcomes children, noting that there is even a separate menu, but ultimately believes the “restaurant bans kids” decision will bring in customers, who want “a peaceful dining experience.”
