Saints Row IV just had its first mission revealed.
Coming a long way from its original storyline of rival gangs, Saints Row has gone the full-on ridiculous route this time. What started out as a DLC mission for Saints Row III ( Enter The Dominatrix , which ended up being DLC for this game instead) spawned a whole new game that pushes the boundaries of pretty much everything.
The leader of the Third Street Saints has been elected President of the US, and barely before he has a chance to punch his Vice President in the nards, we fall prey to an alien invasion. Unlike most of the aliens that we’ve seen before, these extra-terrestrials plug us into what is basically a parody of The Matrix.
The world of Saints Row IV can only be saved by the leader of the free world, and don’t try to figure out why. Only know that the President has super powers and outrageous weaponry at his disposal, not to mention enough insane outfits to rival a cosplay gathering.
The video above begins with developer Jim Boone sitting at what looks like the President’s desk when a red phone rings and he answers. A dubstep version of Hail To The Chief is playing through the scene as it breaks away to the game’s logo.
Jim Boone returns sitting at the fake President’s desk and begins explaining the first mission of Saints Row IV . He says the game starts with you trying to find a criminal whose identity you don’t know. You discover as you play that it’s Cyrus from Saints Row III that you’re being sent after. Cyrus is in charge of a team of terrorists with plans to use a nuclear weapon on Washington, D.C..
The game footage starts rolling with a man sitting on a throne and holding a large scepter. A female voice starts in, “This is a truth universally acknowledged, that every now and again a situation arises that defies explanation. And so it was with the ascension of the Third Street Saints. When the Saints made their presence known to the world in 2006, they were decried for being pretenders to the throne.”
Are you excited to play Saints Row IV August 20 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, and August 23 in Europe? What do you think of the video for the first mission?
