Tom Cruise Set To Return For ‘Mission: Impossible 5’
Tom Cruise needs a huge box office hit right about now. Apparently he’s hoping another installment of his Mission: Impossible franchise will do the trick.
Although Jack Reacher and Oblivion weren’t exactly box office flops, they weren’t on-par with the sort of money Cruise vehicles generally make. Of course, we won’t even discuss director Adam Shankman’s deeply misguided musical Rock of Ages. Let’s just pretend that one doesn’t exist.
In order to prove to the masses that he still has what it takes to command a hefty Hollywood salary, Tom Cruise is going back to a franchise that seems to make money every time it steps up to bat. Paramount Pictures recently confirmed that the actor has signed on for Mission: Impossible 5.
According to a recent press release, the upcoming sequel will find Cruise collaborating with Jack Reacher director Christopher McQuarrie. Although this rumor has been making the rounds online for quite some time, the studio has officially confirmed his involvement with the feature.
Since Cruise and McQuarrie worked pretty well during their previous project, the actor seems quite excitement about the filmmaker’s involvement with Mission: Impossible 5.
The Top Gun star said in a statement:
I am thrilled to reunite with Chris for the latest installment in the Mission series. I began producing the films with the goal that a different director with his own vision would make each one. Chris is an extraordinary filmmaker who will deliver the heart-pounding action and thrills that audiences around the world have come to expect from the Mission: Impossible franchise.
The Inquisitr previously reported that Tom Cruise officially announced his involvement with the project during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
“I’ll make a bunch of those. I’ll make as many as people want to see… because they’re very challenging, and so much fun to make,” the actor explained.
Although Internet Movie Database has Jeremy Renner listed as possibly returning for the upcoming sequel, nothing about his participation has been confirmed just yet.
