The latest poster for Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World is stuffed to overflowing with characters featured in the upcoming superhero epic.
Although the long-haired hero (Chris Hemsworth) and his lady love (Natalie Portman) take center stage in the recently-released artwork, there’s definitely a ton of stuff going on in the background.
Hanging out in the clouds just above Thor’s head is Christopher Eccleston’s villainous Malekith the Accursed. Not too far away from the rest of the gang is Thor and The Avengers bad guy Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and his trademark sinister grin.
Also hanging around the latest Thor: The Dark World poster are Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander, and the actors who play Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg. It’s not the most low-key promotional image to hit the internet, but then again, the studio isn’t exactly known for its subtlety.
Director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Mad Men) takes the reigns from director Kenneth Branagh for the next installment of the otherworldly hero’s cinematic saga. Most of the players from the original flick, including 2 Broke Girl star Kat Dennings, have returned for the follow-up.
Here’s how Marvel is describing the story:
Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos… but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
