Kenny Chesney Shocked By Riley Cooper’s Racism
Kenny Chesney says he was shocked by Riley Cooper’s racist rant at his Philadelphia concert. Riley was filmed during the outburst, and the video has gone viral.
The Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver was fined for his behavior, and has been ordered to attend sensitivity training. As reported by USA Today, Cooper met with Eagles officials to discuss the incident. An official statement outlined how the situation was dealt with:
“… his next step will be to seek outside assistance to help him fully understand the impact of his words and actions… as an organization, we will provide the resources he needs to do so.”
A collective bargaining agreement prevents further disciplinary action. However, Commissioner Roger Godell explains that Cooper’s comments were “offensive and they were unacceptable.”
Kenny Chesney is disturbed that the incident happened during his concert. He is concerned that Cooper’s behavior will reflect badly on the audience, the NFL, and the city of Philadelphia.
Chesney points out that NFL players are heroes, and should be held to higher standards. As reported by MSN, he stated that he is against discrimination and he thinks Cooper’s language was “unacceptable… hateful beyond words.”
Riley Cooper offered an apology and attempted to explain his outburst:
“There was a confrontation and I handled it extremely, extremely poorly… I know no one in Philadelphia is happy with me right now. I accept that. I just hope they see the true me. And accept my apology.”
Cooper’s team mates have mixed views on the incident and his apology. Quarterback Michael Vick was outraged. However, he later accepted Cooper’s personal apology. Linebacker Brandon Graham pointed out that “nobody is perfect,” and he hopes Cooper and the rest of the team can move on from the incident.
Receiver Jason Avant explains that he was hurt when he saw the video. However, he is trying to forgive his team mate.
Kenny Chesney has the utmost respect for the NFL organization and the players. He hopes Riley Cooper is the only one that will suffer repercussions from the racist rant.
