Valerie Harper Filming TV Movie For UP Channel
Valerie Harper has started filming a new TV movie for the UP channel called The Town That Came A-Courtin’.
Harper, who won three Emmy Awards for her work on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, recently announced that she had inoperable brain cancer. Harper told her fans that she isn’t worried about her future and is currently just trying to live in the moment.
Harper said at the time: “I just want folks to see me, that I’m OK, that I’m not suffering so far… There may be pain. There may be a lot of things ahead, but whatever they are, they’re ahead. They’re not now.”
Since announcing that she had cancer Harper has appeared on an episode of The Simpsons and recently had a Mary Tyler Moore reunion on the show Hot In Cleveland.
Barbara Fisher, senior vice president for original programming at UP, said: “UP is thrilled to have the always inspirational Valerie Harper as part of our talented the Town That Came A-Courtin’ cast… The uplifting, sometimes bumpy romance showcases how a community’s spirit and good will can help people connect and find each other.”
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Lauren Holly (NCIS), Cameron Bancroft (24) and Lucie Guest (Blackstone) will also star in the new movie.
The Wrap reports that Holly will play a successful author who gets held captive in a remote cabin by one of her fans. Harper will play Charlotte, the owner of a bed-and breakfast in the town of Bliss.
Harper has four Emmy Awards (three for the Mary Tyler Moore Show and one for Rhoda) and a Golden Globe Award (Rhoda).
Her new movie will premiere on the UP Channel this January.
