Ripken Abduction: Reward Raised To $100,000
Cal Ripken Jr. announced today that he was raising the reward for any information regarding the abduction of his mother last summer to $100,000.
Ripken’s 75-year-old mother Vi was abducted from her home in Aberdeen in July of 2012. She was returned safely to her home after about 24 hours, but police have not been able to find out who was responsible for the kidnapping.
Cal is now trying to reignite the case by offering a $100,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
Ripken Jr. said: “We are trying to reignite interest in the case by putting up a $100,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the man who abducted mom a little over a year ago… In our minds, this is important, not only for us and our community, but for all communities. We would like to get closure on this case and give all of us some peace of mind.”
Police were able to capture an image of Ripken’s kidnapper but they have not been able to identify the suspect. Aberdeen police said that “no additional details regarding the suspect or his motive have been developed.”
The Baltimore Sun notes that Ripken initially offered $2000 for information regarding his mother’s abduction.
