Wonder Woman TV Show Currently On ‘Pause’
It would appear that the proposed Wonder Woman TV series isn’t going to happen anytime soon.
Adapting the character for the small screen is turning out to be much harder than many people initially thought. Despite their best efforts, the CW is putting the show on the back burner for the time being.
Although it appeared that the network was making progress on the series, the CW’s Mark Pedowitz said that the Wonder Woman show entitled Amazon is headed back to the drawing board.
“Amazon is on pause (as) the script is not exactly what we wanted, and with an iconic character like Wonder Woman, we have to get it right,” he explained.
This is definitely a different picture than the one Pedowitz painted earlier this year. When asked if the show was still in development, the CW head honcho’s enthusiasm made it seem as though the series was essentially a done deal.
“Oh God yes. It’s being redeveloped. We don’t want to produce something that doesn’t do the franchise justice. It’s the trickiest of all the DC characters,” he explained to Entertainment Weekly last May.
The network put together a pilot for Amazon not too long ago. However, Pedowitz and the suits at the network didn’t feel that all of the ingredients were there. Instead of moving forward with a half-baked concept, they decided to retool the entire series.
Unfortunately, it would seem that the latest Wonder Woman show is headed down the same path as David E. Kelley’s endeavor. The Ally McBeal creator tried his hand at adapting the show, though he couldn’t find any takers. However, he still feels the character is “viable” for audiences.
“My only regret is we were never given a chance to correct them. We had a lot that was right about it and a great cast. In time, we could have fixed what we had done wrong, we just didn’t get that chance,” Kelley explained.
Are you disappointed that the Wonder Woman TV series is currently on “pause” at the CW?
