Arnold Schwarzenegger: Happy Birthday To The ‘Terminator’
Arnold Schwarzenegger turns 66 years old today. Happy Birthday to the Terminator!
It’s almost impossible to not know who Arnold Schwarzenegger is. He has starred in probably as many action movies as Johnny Depp has had roles. Then after temporarily taking a break from show business, he became the “Governator” of California. Now he’s making a comeback in his senior years in less action packed roles, but he still probably has better muscle tone than you.
After getting his start as a body builder in Austria and winning the title of Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia several times, Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger broke into show business with Hercules In New York. He starred in several bad movies early on before finally making a name for himself with Conan The Barbarian alongside James Earl Jones, and Conan The Destroyer alongside notorious strong-woman Grace Jones.
The role we all know him for, The Terminator, was the launching point of the phrase “I’ll be back,” which ended up working its way into nearly every big movie he could get it in. Arnold Schwarzenegger was also the star of the last film before James Cameron’s long absence, the spy action thriller True Lies.
Like most big action stars, Arnold Schwarzenegger did make his share of stinkers, some of which included his comedy outings with Danny DeVito. The “Governator” is mostly known for his one-liners, and is the only action star to inspire a metal band dedicated to references to his films, Austrian Death Machine.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s biggest role ever was as the man in charge of California, which mirrored a scene in the Sylvester Stallone movie Demolition Man where he is joked about as having been the President of the US. This status of power was also poked at in his later film The Expendables, where Bruce Willis made a cameo alongside him with an exiting line about him wanting to be the President.
More recent films in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s repertoire include The Last Stand, Escape Plan, and yet another Terminator film, as well as a recurring role in The Expendables 3. In 2014, Arnold Schwarzenegger is planning to make a titular followup to his first major role as Conan once again.
Happy Birthday, Arnold Schwarzenegger! What’s your favorite “Governator” film?
