The fake cops robbing Detroit citizens at gunpoint are turning out to be real cops.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, robberies by fake cops in Detroit were being reported fairly regularly.
Times are especially tough in Detroit nowadays. The Detroit bankruptcy was allowed to proceed by a judge even though originally some felt such a large city declaring bankruptcy should be considered unconstitutional. Now Detroit citizen have to watch out for not-so-fake cops.
Driving a white Crown Victoria, the supposedly fake cops wore bulletproof vests and police badges. These “fake cop” robbers would hold up drivers pumping gas and in one case even pistol-whipped the victims to get their cash and cell phones. The unmarked Crown Victoria has become infamous for pulling over drivers, demanding a search, and then robbing the victims blind.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig explains how the supposedly fake cop robbers were discovered to be real cops :
“Several unidentified police officers were working this particular robbery case, recognized one of the suspects in the photographs as being a member of the Detroit Police Department. In fact, they were police officers, just not working on-duty at the time.”
The lawyer for the two fake yet real cops claims they are “not rogue cops. They’re not cops on the street trying to take down innocent people.” Whether innocent or not, Detroit police are reminding the public that if they suspect fake cops are attempting to rob them they are allowed by law to ignore the “police officers” and call 911 for help.
