Ian Somerhalder Won’t Be In Fifty Shades Of Grey, Says Author
Huge news today for those waiting on Fifty Shades of Grey film casting news: Fan favorite frontrunner Ian Somerhalder won’t be playing Christian Grey. This isn’t a rumor, it’s confirmed. In fact, the author said that she was never even considering him.
Though the 34-year-old Vampire Diaries star expressed interest in the role in previous interviews, he was apparently never even a contender. “E.L. [James] was at a Comic-Con party July 20 telling people the part won’t go to Ian,” a source told Us Magazine.
Here’s another actor you can rule out, too: Garrett Hedlund.
The 28-year-old was apparently approached for the role of Christian Grey, but turned it down. Why? Sources say that he just doesn’t want to commit to a trilogy, and of course, there’s no way he could get away with playing Grey for just one film.
This all knocks Fifty Shades of Grey casting news back a few steps, putting everyone back at square one (that is to say, nowhere). The only person who has definitively been “cast” to take part in the film is its director, Sam Taylor Johnson.
“I saw both of her films, and I was blown away. Simple,” James told Vulture of the director.
“She’s creative, incredibly talented, she’s got an extraordinary eye. She had a good idea about the whole Fifty experience, she understands it. And I thought, There’s a woman I can go and get drunk with.”
So be on the lookout for an actor and actress who would make excellent drinking buddies.
Now that Ian is out, who do you think should play Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey?
