Kanye West Could Face Charges For Paparazzi Scuffle
Kanye West could be facing charges for his altercation with a photographer at LAX last week.
TMZ reported Thursday that West would not be charged with a crime in connection with the scuffle, but the Los Angeles Police department told Us Weekly that no decision has been made yet.
“The investigation is still ongoing and no determination has been made as to whether charges will be filed or not,” the LAPD Robbery and Homicide division said.
Here’s what happened: On July 19, West was leaving the Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX when he was approached by an “especially aggressive” photographer. West — who has already told paparazzi not to talk to or follow him — said, “What you’re trying to do is get me in trouble … so I’ll have to pay you, like, $250,000.” The 36-year-old first-time dad then caught the photog in a headlock and eventually pushed the shutterbug to the ground before letting go and getting into his car. Witnesses can be heard saying, “Hey, you hit that guy,” as airport security tells West to stop his attack.
Following the scuffle, airport police said in a statement that the photographer flagged down police officers and said that he had been “taking pictures of an individual when he was battered by the subject.” The LAFD was notified and the photographer was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Initially, law enforcement officials said that West committed attempted robbery by trying to take the photographer’s camera, but an investigation into the incident is still in progress.
A source said that West didn’t actually hurt the paparazzo, and that Yeezus “went to grab the camera and the guy fell being so dramatic.”
A few days after the incident, Kirstie Alley commended West for attacking the photographer, saying, “Too bad he didn’t whip his a** with his hat! Go Kanye! I applaud anyone who takes a swing at ’em.”
